Science Bowl  

The Science Bowl competition is an event in which students compete as teams of four against each other in a "Toss up/Bonus" question format.  The competition involves Junior and Senior levels.  A unique requirement about the competition is that 20% of the questions are about African American inventors, scientists and engineers.  Winners at the local level attend the NOBCChE National Conference to compete.  

The NOBCChE, Gulf coast Chapter’s Science Fair Competition will be held Saturday, February 17, 2007, 8:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Texas Southern University. Science Bowl teams will compete in the Junior Division (grades 7-9) or the Senior Division (grades 10-12).  Only science bowl teams selected as grand prize, first, second or third in this local competition will be sanctioned by the Gulf coast Chapter to compete in the national competition.  

Science Bowl grand prize winners will represent the Chapter in the national competitions, which are held in conjunction with the annual NOBCChE conference.  The 2007 conference will be held in Orlando, Florida, April 4-6, 2007.  Schools sending a science bowl winner must be in good financial standing with the Gulf Coast Chapter to compete at national.  The local chapter will pay for the airfare, hotel, and ground transportation for the students as follows:

There is not a national competition for the Elementary Division.

A coach/chaperon from the winning school(s) must accompany their student(s) to the national competition.  The school must pay the travel expenses for a coach/chaperon.  Second and third place science bowl winners may enter the national competition at the school or parents’ expense.
